You deserve to get a good night’s sleep every night. You also deserve to feel relaxed every now and then, especially when things are getting quite hectic at work.


Contrary to what you might think, you can achieve relaxation even without spending a small fortune on a spa weekend getaway. (It’s still a lovely thought though).

  1. Meditate

A few minutes of meditation daily can go a long way. It can help alter your brain’s neutral pathways, helping you to be more resilient to stress.

So, how to meditate?

All you need to do is to sit up straight with both of your feet on the floor. Close your eyes and focus on reciting (out loud or silently) your mantra. It could be anything like “I’m at peace with myself and with whatever will come my way today”, or even just a simple “I love me”.

  1. Breathe Deeply

Breathing helps bring more oxygen to the blood and to your heart. As a result, all of your organs will be functioning perfectly, your heart rate will slow down and you will feel more at ease.

To maximise the benefits of breathing deeply, take a short break and concentrate on how you breathe. Sit up straight with your eyes closed and your hands on your stomach. Breathe slowly through your nose and exhale through your mouth.

  1. Be Aware


Take a few minutes every day to just focus on the things around you. Or, even better focus on yourself. Let your senses go wild and try to acknowledge your environment. Is there a soft breeze? What are the things you see? Look at the sky and see if there are any birds. Observe your colleagues at work.

Focusing on the things around you help you feel more comfortable. So, indulge a few minutes daily for your “self awareness” break.

  1. Tune In to Your Body

What usually happens when you feel stressed? How does your body react, or respond, to stress?

If you can, lie down on your back or just sit straight with your feet to the floor and notice how your body feels.

Being aware of your different body parts, especially those that are tense, gives you the opportunity to take control of the tension and start easing back into a relaxed state.

If you have a hard time getting rid of the tension, try a few sessions of massage therapy to loosen up those muscles.

  1. Laugh Out Loud

Lastly, laugh out loud!

A good belly laugh doesn’t just bring a smile to your face, it can also help you release bad vibrations. It helps lower your body’s cortisol levels, or your stress hormone, and increases your body’s endorphins, or your happy hormones.

So, watch funny movies, chat with a fun friend about anything and everything and just have a good time.

The more you laugh, the more relaxed you will be.
